This wonderful Clare Valley Grenache comes from very old vines on this historic vineyard. Energy: that’s what you feel from the first encounter of this wine. Lifted fruit of rose petal and rosewater with a subtle touch of confectionery. The palate is medium bodied but, oh my, there’s so much going on in there before a seamlessly integrated and vibrant finish.

From a 1920-planted vineyard and a heritage clone of grenache. The wine sees one-third of the ferment kept as whole bunches. There's lots of white pepper and aromatic green herb elements overlaid on ripe cherry, cassis and game meat characters – the bouquet and palate reverberate these notes succinctly. It's got tension and drive, with a compact feel in the palate despite potency and concentration. Definitively a bigger, bolder expression of grenache, but all glued together and stretched so long and so well. Athletic expression, done with aplomb.

Sevenhill Cellars, established in 1851 by Jesuit priests, is one of the oldest wineries in Clare Valley and is celebrated for its commitment to quality and tradition. Originally founded to produce sacramental wine, Sevenhill has grown into a respected winery producing a range of exceptional varietals. Open Range Grenache reflects this legacy, focusing on Clare Valley's regional character and Sevenhill’s dedication to minimal intervention winemaking.
Sevenhill Open Range Grenache is produced in Clare Valley, South Australia, a region known for its warm days and cool nights, ideal for cultivating vibrant, flavorful Grenache. Clare Valley's diverse soils and Mediterranean climate allow Grenache to develop rich, concentrated flavors while retaining balanced acidity, making it an excellent terroir for expressive reds.
Light red in colour. A pretty aroma of strawberries, musk, purple daisies and fresh rain in the desert. The palate has a seamless quality, it is light and fresh yet has a fine satin structure that does not overshadow the energetic fruit. It is young wine and it shows signs of developing well in the medium term.
