2021 Terroir Sense Fronteres Negre, Montsant

This is really effortless. Pale ruby hue, showing aromas of scented pomegranate, roses, wet stones and wild raspberries. Really fluid and fluent on the palate with a fresh thread of acidity. Silky, but firm, fresh and ethereal, as if you were tasting a pinot with delicious tannins. 100% garnacha noir for this vintage. Delicious now, so why wait?

This year’s Negre is a pure Garnacha, from mature vines sited around Capçanes. The 25-year-old (on average) bush vines sit at 350 metres on the mixed sandy clay soils (known locally as panal) with varied exposures. The fruit was 100% whole-bunch fermented in tank only—a gentle, short fermentation that took only around seven to eight days. Following this, the wine rested in tank for six months and was bottled unfiltered.
 
Flush with fresh berry fruits and floral lift, this is Grenache in its prettiest guise: all lacy, supple red fruits, mouth-watering freshness and aromatic length. So delicious.
