Tyrrell's Shiraz from the Hunter Valley offers blackberry, plum and pepper with silky tannins and classic regional character.
Man alive. This may well have had some help with bits 'n' pieces from the old vines. I don't know how such elegance and poise in a medium-bodied style could be made in a challenging vintage with too much rain and not enough sunshine for all but the old boys.

Tyrrell's has been part of the Hunter Valley's winemaking story since 1858, making it one of Australia's oldest family owned wineries. Five generations of the Tyrrell family have built an extraordinary reputation for producing wines of authenticity, longevity and regional character, with Chris Tyrrell continuing to champion the estate's historic vineyards and traditional approach.
This Shiraz is sourced from premium vineyards across the Hunter Valley, where warm days, cooling afternoon breezes and ancient soils produce a style unlike any other in Australia. Rather than relying on sheer weight, Hunter Valley Shiraz is celebrated for its medium bodied elegance, savoury complexity and remarkable ability to age.
The colour is a deep crimson with youthful purple hues. Aromas of blackberry, dark cherry and plum are joined by cracked pepper, violet and subtle spice. The palate is beautifully balanced, layering dark berry fruit over silky tannins and bright acidity. Hints of liquorice, earth and gentle oak emerge with time in the glass, while the finish is long, savoury and unmistakably Hunter Valley.
A wonderful companion for roast lamb, chargrilled pork cutlets, mushroom ragù with pappardelle or smoky eggplant with black garlic and herbs. Enjoy now with a decant or cellar confidently for the next decade as further complexity develops.
