Alain Jaume Réserve Grand Veneur Côtes du Rhône is a generous, beautifully made southern Rhône red that overdelivers in both flavour and finesse. Crafted by the Jaume family, who have been producing wine in the Rhône since the early 1800s, this cuvée is a standout example of why the Côtes du Rhône remains one of France’s most dependable sources of value and character. It’s rich, spicy and full of Mediterranean warmth, but with the balance and structure that elevate it beyond the everyday.
The blend is classic southern Rhône — primarily Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre playing supporting roles. The fruit is sourced from organically farmed vineyards around Orange and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, on clay-limestone and galet-strewn soils. Fermentation is in stainless steel to preserve freshness, with ageing in tank and large neutral foudres to soften the wine without masking its fruit or spice.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of ripe raspberry, black cherry, garrigue herbs, liquorice and cracked pepper. The palate is medium to full-bodied with silky tannins, juicy red and black fruit, and a touch of earth and dried thyme on the finish. There’s vibrancy and lift that keeps it all fresh and food-friendly, making it far more refined than its modest label might suggest.
Food pairing: A natural match for grilled lamb, ratatouille, sausage and lentils, roast duck, or mushroom and olive pizza. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses or charcuterie.
Cellar potential: Best enjoyed over the next 3 to 6 years while its fruit and freshness are at their peak.
