Argiano Rosso di Montalcino is a vibrant and elegant expression of Sangiovese from one of the most historic estates in Montalcino. Produced from younger vines on the same property that yields their celebrated Brunello, this wine offers a more immediate, fruit-driven take on the terroir — fresher, more approachable, but still refined and true to its origins. It’s a classic Rosso with structure and savoury depth, made in a style that bridges tradition and drinkability.
The wine is crafted entirely from Sangiovese Grosso grown on galestro and limestone soils at around 280 metres elevation. Fermentation is in stainless steel to preserve freshness, followed by ageing in large Slavonian oak and concrete vats for 6 to 12 months. The result is a Rosso with purity, polish and the kind of layered, honest charm that makes it a favourite of sommeliers and Brunello lovers alike.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of wild cherry, red plum, thyme, dried rose and a touch of cedar. The palate is medium bodied and finely textured, with juicy red fruit, lively acidity, and savoury tannins that offer both grip and finesse. There’s a core of energy and minerality that speaks clearly of Montalcino, with a finish that is fresh, earthy and gently spiced.
Food pairing: ideal with grilled pork chops, Tuscan sausages, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, or a mushroom and pecorino tart. Also excellent with aged Parmigiano or firm sheep’s milk cheeses.
Cellar potential: ready to enjoy now but will evolve gracefully over 5 to 7 years, gaining more earth, spice and integration.
