Estate Argyros, established in 1903, is a family-owned winery on the island of Santorini, Greece. Currently led by fourth-generation winemaker Matthew Argyros, the estate is renowned for its dedication to indigenous grape varieties, particularly Assyrtiko. With over 120 hectares of vineyards, some vines exceeding 200 years in age, the winery emphasizes traditional viticultural practices to produce wines that reflect the unique volcanic terroir of Santorini.
The Argyros Atlantis White is a blend of 90% Assyrtiko, 5% Athiri, and 5% Aidani, sourced from relatively young vines, sixty years old or younger, and fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures. In the glass, it presents a pale straw color with greenish hues. The nose is greeted with intense aromas of citrus fruits, notably lemon and lime, intertwined with notes of green apple, white flowers, and a distinct minerality reminiscent of wet stones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and crisp, delivering flavors of ripe citrus, pear, and a subtle saline quality that reflects the island's maritime influence. The high acidity provides a refreshing backbone, balancing the fruit intensity and contributing to a long, clean finish. As the wine evolves in the glass, nuances of honeysuckle and a slight nuttiness emerge, adding complexity and depth. This Assyrtiko exemplifies the harmony between vibrant fruit character and the mineral-driven profile characteristic of Santorini's volcanic soils.
