2022 Chalk Hill SBR Nero d'Avola, McLaren Vale

The grapes have quite complex flavours in the vineyard with nice earthy and spicy notes. The aim is to preserve these with minimal intervention in the winery. After a 10 day ferment on skins, the wine was transferred to older French oak barrels to preserve the fruit characters.

A bold Sicilian variety that's found a softer, more refined home in McLaren Vale. Perfumed nose with crunchy red currant fruit, mulberries and layers of spice. Bright and fruit driven on the front palate, this wine is medium bodied with good fruit weight combining with layers of cooking spice and minerals. Drink it with rustic gourmet pizza with salami, basil and semi dried tomatoes, now to 2027
