2022 Chiara Condello Sangiovese, Emilia-Romagna

Chiara Condello Sangiovese from Emilia-Romagna is a captivating and soulful expression of this noble Italian grape, crafted by one of the region’s most exciting young winemakers. Based in Predappio, in the heart of the Romagna hills, Chiara Condello produces Sangiovese that combines elegance, freshness and authenticity. Her wines have quickly become benchmarks for the area, reflecting both her organic approach and her deep respect for the land.

The vineyards are situated on limestone and clay soils at around 150 to 250 metres above sea level. The fruit is farmed organically, hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts in large open vats. Maceration is gentle and slow, followed by ageing in large Slavonian oak botti for around 18 months. This traditional approach allows the true voice of Sangiovese to emerge — vibrant fruit, firm structure and an earthy, mineral core.

In the glass it shows a luminous ruby red colour. The aroma is pure and lifted, with notes of red cherry, rose, violet and wild herbs, followed by subtle hints of cedar and spice. On the palate it is refined and medium bodied, offering bright red fruit flavours, fine tannins and lively acidity. The finish is long and savoury, marked by mineral freshness and delicate floral echoes. It’s a wine that feels both graceful and grounded, perfectly expressing the Romagna terroir and Chiara’s gentle hand.

Chiara Condello Sangiovese pairs beautifully with dishes such as pappardelle al ragù, roast pork, grilled lamb or wild mushroom risotto. It also complements aged cheeses and rustic antipasto. While delicious now for its freshness and energy, it will continue to evolve beautifully for eight to ten years, gaining complexity and depth with age.
