2022 Clos du Caillou Cotes du Rhone Blanc Bouquet des Garrigues, Southern Rhone

From organically farmed vineyards on the stony plains of the southern Rhône, this white captures the wild herbal perfume and sunlit generosity suggested by its name. Bouquet des Garrigues is built around traditional Rhône white varieties grown among the scrub and aromatic plants that define the landscape. Clos du Caillou works with sandy, galet strewn soils that store heat but still allow freshness, shaping a wine that balances ripeness with lift. The estate’s low intervention philosophy keeps the focus squarely on terroir and natural texture.

The blend is designed for harmony, combining citrus brightness with rounder, floral elements. Fermentation and ageing preserve fruit purity while allowing gentle lees texture to build weight. The result is a white that feels both generous and savoury, built for the table rather than simple refreshment.

In the glass it shows pale gold with green flashes. Aromas open with pear, white peach and lemon peel, followed by honeysuckle, fennel and dried herbs. There is a warm Mediterranean character threaded with freshness.

The palate is medium bodied and textural, with orchard fruit wrapped in soft acidity and a lightly waxy feel. Flavours move from citrus and stone fruit into herbal and nutty tones, finishing dry and mouthwatering. A faint saline edge adds length and food friendly grip.

It pairs beautifully with grilled fish, roast chicken, Mediterranean vegetables and dishes built around olive oil and herbs. Drinking impressively now for its balance and perfume, it will hold comfortably for five to seven years, gaining honeyed and savoury nuance.
