Light-mid yellow colour, with a bouquet that has developed a typical Tassie note of buttered sweet corn in its aroma, along with hints of lemon curd, and a note of nectarine which chimes in at the finish. The wine is quite generous in flavour thanks to three years of age, but retains the delicacy of cool-climate fruit. Delicious wine, refreshing at the finish and loaded with energy. It will continue to age well 01 Jul 2025 Drink 2025–2032

Pale straw with aromas of juicy white peach, nectarine and citrus fruits. Hints of clotted cream, lemon curd, vanillin oak, spice, nougat, white flowers, oatmeal and stone. It seems a little more expressive and creamy this year and that's just fine. It's still nicely focused and the characters are brought into harmony with a taut, stony acidity that provides plenty of drive and verve.

Dalrymple Single Site Chardonnay from Pipers River captures the crisp maritime elegance of Tasmania’s north coast, where cool breezes from Bass Strait meet volcanic soils to produce Chardonnay of exceptional tension and finesse. The vineyard lies just inland from the sea, in a region famed for its fine-boned sparkling wines and increasingly celebrated for still Chardonnay with purity, complexity and ageability.

This single site release is drawn entirely from Dalrymple’s estate vineyard, where closely managed rows of Chardonnay thrive in red basalt soils. The maritime influence creates a long, slow ripening season that preserves acidity and builds aromatic nuance. Winemaker Peter Caldwell takes a minimalist, Burgundian-influenced approach: whole bunch pressing, wild fermentation in French oak puncheons, partial malolactic fermentation, and extended lees contact all contribute texture, savoury lift and structural length.

In the glass, the wine is refined and quietly expressive, with aromas of grapefruit zest, white peach and lemon blossom mingling with crushed stone, hazelnut and a hint of struck match. The palate is taut and saline, with a core of citrus and orchard fruit supported by fine acidity and a whisper of creamy oak. There’s lovely line and persistence, with a clean, mineral finish that speaks directly of Pipers River’s cool, wind-swept landscape.

Ideal with grilled scallops, butter-poached crayfish, lemon-roast chicken or celeriac purée with shaved parmesan. It will benefit from decanting in its youth, but also has the backbone to evolve beautifully over six to ten years in the cellar, building layers of spice, toast and savoury complexity.

This Chardonnay is a quiet achiever in the Dalrymple portfolio, showcasing not just the winemaking restraint of Peter Caldwell but also the exceptional potential of Pipers River to produce some of Australia’s most elegant, age-worthy white wines.
