100 % Viognier. Just 2 barrels from the first vintage made from vines in this prime location in the village of Saint Michel-sure-Rhone just south of Chateau Grillet. The soil here is based on granite with biotite mica inclusions (like Chateau Grillet) which brings freshness and texture to the wine. Barrel fermention in 2 older barriques, followed by 15 months maturation adds a level of complexity only found in the finest Condrieus. Only 50 dozen produced. If you love Chateau Grillet and Viognier with minerality and finesse, this is for you. Only 50 dozen produced.
Domaine de La Roche Paradis Condrieu Verlieu is a luminous and finely sculpted Viognier from one of the most revered white wine appellations in the Northern Rhône. Crafted by Yann Menager, a quiet force in the region’s new generation of artisan vignerons, this wine offers a precise, mineral-driven take on Condrieu that beautifully balances aromatic richness with freshness and poise.
The Verlieu parcel lies on steep granite terraces overlooking the Rhône River near the heart of the Condrieu appellation. These shallow, rocky soils combined with a southern exposure allow the Viognier to reach full ripeness while retaining bright acidity and mineral tension. The vineyard is farmed organically, and every step from pruning to picking is done by hand.
Yann vinifies with utmost care. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented with native yeasts in older oak barrels, followed by a short élevage on lees without bâtonnage. There is no new oak, no fining or filtration, and only minimal sulphur at bottling. The result is a Condrieu of elegance and clarity, far from the overtly rich or oily style sometimes associated with the appellation.
In the glass, it opens with classic Viognier aromatics of apricot, white peach, jasmine and fresh herbs, lifted by a clean citrus edge and a whisper of almond. The palate is textured yet restrained, offering stone fruit, soft florals, and a shimmering granite-like minerality that lingers through the finish.
Ideal with lobster ravioli, roast chicken with apricot glaze, or a warm goat cheese salad with honey and thyme. This Condrieu is expressive now and will reward careful cellaring over the next 5 to 7 years.
