This blend comes from hillside vines with an average altitude of 250 metres, grown on loess/limestone soils, and holding both south and east expositions. A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan, as well as some Marselan (from some old vines of a rarely seen hybrid that Olivier Klein likes for the acidity it brings to the blend), this is perhaps the spiciest of the Réméjeanne wines we ship. The grapes are sorted and mostly destemmed before a natural ferment in concrete tank. The Carignan grapes are however fermented carbonic style. There is no sulphur used during the vinification, and the wine then spends a year in tank prior to bottling (unfined).
Named after the honeysuckle tree, it’s a supple and airy southern Rhône with notes of mulberry, anise and spice box, sinewy tannins—typical of the limestone-rich soils of Sabran—and a long, vibrantly perfumed finish. A twist of smoky, inky fruit on the bright, succulent close only adds to the appeal. It offers terrific class and bang for the money.
On the palate, La Remejeanne Les Chèvrefeuilles Côtes du Rhône Rouge offers vibrant flavors of ripe red berries, including cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, layered with subtle spice notes of black pepper, clove, and a touch of garrigue herbs. The wine’s supple tannins and bright acidity provide a fresh and lively structure, while hints of licorice, earthy undertones, and a touch of smoky minerality add depth and complexity. Aromas of violets, dried herbs, and crushed blackcurrants create an enticing bouquet that evolves beautifully in the glass, leading to a smooth, lingering finish. This Côtes du Rhône is a versatile food wine, pairing perfectly with classic dishes such as roast lamb, grilled sausages, and ratatouille. It also complements charcuterie boards, aged cheeses, and rustic Mediterranean fare like stuffed peppers and olive tapenade. Whether enjoyed young for its bright fruit character or cellared for a few years to develop further complexity, La Remejeanne Les Chèvrefeuilles offers an inviting and authentic taste of the Rhône Valley.
