2022 Domaine de l’Arlot Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Mont des Oiseaux, Burgundy

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Mont des Oiseaux 1er Cru was raised in 35% new oak and taken from barrel. The nose demonstrated a slight reduction, though attractive cranberry and wild strawberry fruit are already in place. The medium-bodied palate offers dark berry fruit laced with blood orange and a touch of clove. Quite citrus-fresh towards the well-structured finish. There is ample depth here, and the oak allows the terroir to shine. Very fine.

Top part of the Clos de l’Arlot on white limestone, younger clonal vines. A pretty mid purple, what seems to be an iron rich note on the nose, though it is not that. A stony touch too. This is elegant, medium bodied, indeed seems light at first until there is a burst of fruit towards the back. Good crisp acidity to finish along with an attractive red fruit perfume.

Sourced from the younger vines within the prestigious Clos de l’Arlot monopole, this cuvée showcases lifted aromatics, fine tannins, and a graceful, almost ethereal texture—making it one of the most elegant expressions of Premier Cru Nuits.

The Mont des Oiseaux parcel lies at the northern edge of Clos de l’Arlot, planted on limestone-rich soils that are particularly well drained and exposed to gentle breezes. These conditions produce fruit of high aromatic intensity and fresh natural acidity. Though the vines are relatively young, they are cultivated biodynamically, in line with Domaine de l’Arlot’s deep commitment to ecological balance and terroir transparency.

Winemaker Géraldine Godot treats this cuvée with a light touch. Fermentation often includes a proportion of whole bunches to enhance lift and texture, and ageing is done in a restrained mix of French oak, with minimal new barrels. The goal is to preserve the purity of fruit and the finely etched structure that Mont des Oiseaux naturally delivers.

In the glass, the wine opens with floral aromas of rose petal and violet, joined by red cherry, raspberry, white pepper, and hints of wild herbs. The palate is light to medium bodied, precise and supple, with silky tannins, bright acidity, and a long, mineral finish that speaks of its limestone origin. There’s a clarity and vibrancy here that feels both modern and classically Burgundian.
