Extremely vibrant and wild aromas of crisp plums, chaparral and cracked pepper erupt on the nose of this always exciting bottling. Black raspberry, dank herb and peppercorn flavors ride relatively creamy tannins and a waxy tension into the finish.

Nice texture. Sweetly fruited with concentration allied to freshness, with a core of mineral-laced sweet black cherry and red cherry fruit with great precision. Such purity. Very fine and delicate with amazing purity. This is remarkable.

Sitting upslope from the neighbouring Memorious, Bloom’s Field spans the southwest-facing hillside that delineates the windward edge of the Domaine. The Monterey Shale bedrock of Memorious is prevalent here, too. However, the clay topsoils of Bloom’s Field are lighter in color and texture, particularly as the vineyard climbs the slope. Organic, 100% whole cluster into open concrete tank, spontaneous fermentation, 12 months elevage in Ermitage barrels - 30% new.
Domaine de la Côte Bloom’s Field Pinot Noir is a captivating, single-vineyard wine from the cool, coastal slopes of the Sta. Rita Hills, just seven miles from the Pacific Ocean. Bloom’s Field is a wind-swept site planted on clay-rich soils over diatomaceous earth, facing west toward the ocean. This exposure to cool marine breezes and fog leads to a long, slow ripening season, giving the wine incredible aromatic lift, fine-boned structure and distinctive savoury complexity.
Farmed organically and vinified with restraint, the fruit is hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts, often with a significant portion of whole bunches to enhance perfume and texture. Ageing takes place in neutral French oak barrels for around 18 months, allowing the vineyard’s unique character to shine through without oak interference.
In the glass, Bloom’s Field opens with aromas of red currant, rose petal, crushed herbs, black tea, and coastal earth. The palate is medium bodied and structured, with tightly wound red fruit, fine tannins, wild thyme, and a persistent mineral edge. There’s energy and salinity through the finish, making it feel both ethereal and grounded — a true reflection of this high-density, low-yield vineyard.
Food pairing: excellent with duck with cherry glaze, roast guinea fowl, porcini pasta, or seared tuna with soy and sesame. Also pairs well with alpine cheeses or mushroom-based dishes.
Cellar potential: drinking beautifully now with decanting, but will age gracefully over 10 to 15 years, evolving more forest floor, spice and umami depth.
