The 2022 Vouvray “le Mont” Demi-Sec from Domaine Huët is another stellar young wine. It is just a touch riper than the le Haut Lieu version, coming in at 13.5 percent octane this year. The wine offers up a beautiful young bouquet of sweet quince, pear, honeycomb, a gorgeous base of limestone minerality, gently musky floral tones and a touch of lanolin in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and shows off superb depth at the core, with fine mineral drive and cut, a lovely spine of acidity, excellent balance and a long, complex and very, very promising finish. Today, this does not share the ethereal lift and beauty of the 2022 le Haut Lieu Demi-Sec, but that quality may just be buried behind the beautiful veneer of ripe fruit today. (8/2023)

This has the structure and bitter-edged minerality to carry its weight and ripeness, with beeswax and white tea notes that overlay crunchy orchard fruit and pink grapefruit with peppery spice notes woven in. A lot of savory detail and acidity makes this superbalanced and very food-friendly.
