A blend of 43/34/23% grenache/shiraz/mataro from the Elderton Greenock estate, aged in old French oak puncheons for seven months. The conversation here is less about the carpentry and more about the fruit, which just so happens to be super fragrant and pure, all juicy satsuma plum, blueberry, boysenberry and nectarine with hints of exotic spice, gingerbread, red licorice, milk chocolate, cola, jasmine and earth. Light on the tannin, it's just a juicy, vibrant fruit train.

Elderton Estate Family Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre is a classic Barossa Valley blend that brings together generosity, balance and a strong sense of family history. Sourced from Elderton’s estate vineyards, many planted decades ago, the fruit grows on deep red loam and clay soils that give warmth, richness and natural concentration. This is a wine that reflects traditional Barossa values, old vines, careful farming and blends built for harmony rather than dominance.
Elderton is one of the Barossa’s great family run wineries, with the Ashmead family farming the Nuriootpa estate vineyards since the late 1970s. Winemaking today is led by Cameron and Allister Ashmead, whose approach respects regional character while refining structure and balance. The Estate Family GSM is a cornerstone wine, showcasing how Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre complement each other so naturally in the Barossa.
In the glass, the wine is expressive and inviting. Ripe raspberry, red cherry and plum lead from the Grenache and Shiraz, while Mourvèdre adds darker fruit notes, earthiness and gentle spice. Aromas of licorice, dried herbs and a hint of vanilla from well integrated oak build complexity without excess.
On the palate, Elderton Estate Family GSM is medium to full bodied, generous yet well shaped. Juicy red and dark fruit flavours flow through the mid palate, supported by supple tannins and balanced acidity. Grenache brings lift and sweetness of fruit, Shiraz adds depth and structure, and Mourvèdre contributes savoury grip and length. The finish is smooth, persistent and gently spiced, with everything sitting comfortably in place.
This is an extremely food friendly wine. It pairs beautifully with grilled meats, lamb, barbecue, Mediterranean dishes or slow cooked vegetables. Drinking well now for its generosity and balance, it will also cellar confidently over five to ten years, developing more savoury and earthy complexity.
Elderton Estate Family Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre is warm, honest and deeply Barossan. A timeless blend that delivers comfort, character and regional authenticity in equal measure.
