This has all the racy and stony character of this grand cru site, marrying it to a fabulous elegance that makes this quite full-bodied chardonnay glide over your palate. The great concentration and power are adeptly underplayed, but they drive an extremely long, chalky and saline finish that's totally fascinating. From four plots facing east, ranging from the bottom to the top of the hill. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

A more restrained nose only grudgingly displays its aromas of Granny Smith apples, anise, mineral reduction and more discreet floral elements. The racy and tautly muscular large-bodied flavors possess a really lovely texture thanks to the abundant sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the firm acidity shaping the beautifully long, stony and impeccably well-balanced finale. This also needs to develop better depth but given how tightly wound it is, and given the evident quality of the underlying material, that should simply be a matter of (extended) patience. In sum, this is potentially brilliant. Don’t miss!

The Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from the Côte d’Or is a commanding and age-worthy expression of Chardonnay, drawn from one of Burgundy’s most revered white wine vineyards. Domaine Faiveley, a historic family-run estate founded in 1825, has long been admired for its mastery across both Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, and its Corton-Charlemagne is one of the crown jewels in the range. The vineyard itself, straddling the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny, lies on steep limestone and marl slopes that imbue Chardonnay with both intensity and a distinctive mineral drive.
In the glass, the wine is pale gold with green reflections. The bouquet is precise and layered, offering lemon curd, white peach and pear alongside acacia blossom, almond, flint and subtle smoky oak. The palate is powerful and tightly coiled, with citrus and stone fruit wrapped around a backbone of crystalline acidity and chalky minerality. Texture builds in the mid-palate with hints of hazelnut and nougat, leading to an extraordinarily long, focused and elegant finish. This is a wine that beautifully balances richness with restraint, designed to age for decades.
Food pairings reflect its grandeur: lobster thermidor, roast turbot with beurre blanc, scallops with truffle butter, or creamy mushroom dishes. It also pairs well with soft-ripened cheeses such as Brie de Meaux or washed-rind styles. With 15 to 25 years of cellaring potential, Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne evolves into a wine of immense complexity, developing honeyed, nutty and toasty layers while retaining its mineral spine.
