2022 Heggies Reserve Chardonnay, Eden Valley

Pale straw with just a peek of green, there's a detail and linear tension to this year's release that is very appealing. White peach, nectarine and citrus with hints of marzipan, nougat, crushed quartz, wildflowers, clotted cream and nicely judged, dreamy French oak all playing nicely together. Excellent clarity and minerally cadence with a crème fraîche sweep on the mid-palate, some nice grapefruit pith texture and a clean and decidedly moreish flow on the finish.

The palate is generous yet refined, with fresh stone fruit flavors balanced by crisp acidity and a creamy texture from extended time on lees. A fine mineral thread runs through the wine, adding complexity and leading to a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of lemon curd and roasted almonds.

This Chardonnay pairs perfectly with seared scallops, roast chicken with herbs, or grilled white fish in a beurre blanc sauce. Its combination of richness and freshness also makes it an excellent match for mushroom risotto, truffle-infused dishes, and soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert.
