An impressive little Pinot Noir for this price. Lively cherry and raspberry fruit with a liberal sprinkling of spices. The palate is quite plush but there is a necessary thread of fine chalky acid and bony tannins. Has a slightly slippery texture to add appeal and a savoury touch adds to the complexity on the middle palate.

The Howard Park Flint Rock Pinot Noir is a refined and elegant expression of cool-climate winemaking from the Great Southern region of Western Australia. This wine showcases the delicate balance of fruit purity, structure, and finesse that Pinot Noir achieves in this unique terroir.

On the nose, vibrant aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and cranberries dominate, complemented by floral hints of violets and subtle undertones of dried herbs. Earthy notes of forest floor, spice, and a touch of oak add complexity and depth to the bouquet.

The palate is medium-bodied and silky, with fine tannins and a lively acidity that provides freshness and balance. Juicy red fruit flavors are layered with savory elements, such as black tea, cloves, and a whisper of oak. The wine’s long, elegant finish reflects the meticulous craftsmanship and the cool-climate origins of the Great Southern region.

Winemaking at Howard Park focuses on minimal intervention to allow the vineyard's character to shine. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, with fermentation carried out in small batches using natural yeasts. Aging in French oak barrels enhances the wine’s complexity while maintaining its vibrant fruit profile.

This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including roast duck, grilled salmon, or pork tenderloin. It also complements vegetarian fare such as wild mushroom risotto or eggplant parmigiana. While delightful to drink now, the Flint Rock Pinot Noir has the potential to evolve gracefully over the next 5–7 years, gaining further depth and complexity.
