The Stonegarten vineyard, just out of Springton in Eden Valley, is a sought after source of grenache for some of the region's best producers, the 160+ year old, well-farmed vines are quite a drawcard. The aromatic profile is subtle, filigreed. Red cherry, red plum and raspberry with transitory tones of exotic spice, pressed wildflowers, gingerbread, red licorice, stone, subdued cola and gentle wood spice that flit in and out of view. Harmonious and complex with a gorgeous red fruit profile, layers of spice and a savoury finish that glides away slowly. Lovely.

John Duval is one of the world's best known winemakers, coming from a family that boasts four generations of South Australian vignerons. He has been saluted many times on the world stage, notably International Winemaker of the Year in 1989 and twice Red Winemaker of the Year in 1991 and 2000. After 28 years with Penfolds, including 16 years as Chief Winemaker, John has created these stunning wines under the John Duval label, which has now welcomed second generation Tim on board.
This Grenache was sourced from two very old, low yielding vineyards - 80% from an Eden Valley ancestor vineyard over 150 years old, and 20% from Survivor vines planted in the Tanunda region.Raspberry, red cherry, and floral top notes with a core of savoury spice & earthen notes. Generous layers of graceful red fruits, plenty of savoury earthy spice and tension between the fruit and fine tannins, finishing long and pure.
