2022 Joseph Drouhin Bourgogne Laforet Pinot Noir, Burgundy

Joseph Drouhin Bourgogne Laforet Pinot Noir is a beautifully pure and approachable introduction to Burgundy, offering a clear window into the charm of Pinot Noir grown on the limestone soils of the region. The fruit comes from carefully selected vineyards across Burgundy, many of them farmed organically, where cool nights and long growing seasons preserve bright red fruit, perfume and natural acidity.

The Laforet range is Joseph Drouhin’s way of showcasing classic regional character in a fresh, transparent style. The family has been making wine in Burgundy since 1880, and their gentle winemaking and respect for terroir are just as evident here as in their top crus.

In the glass, the wine shows red cherry, strawberry and raspberry, lifted by rose petal and a hint of dried herbs. The palate is light to medium bodied, with fresh acidity and soft, silky tannins that make it easy to drink while still unmistakably Burgundian. There is a subtle savoury edge that adds interest and balance.

This is a wonderful wine for the table. Roast chicken, duck, pork, mushroom dishes, charcuterie or simple bistro fare all work beautifully with its bright fruit and gentle structure. It is also delicious slightly chilled.
