The stunning 2022 Grenache The Fifth Wave is made from old vine fruit. It is seamless and radiates with cherry-ripe aromas topped by layers of meaty spice. The 2022 is expressive and vibrant, with a rich core of flavors well-supported by broad, firm tannins. This Grenache is a lovely wine that will age well. Drink to 2038.

Bright red and lively in the glass. Heady aromas of mulberry, sweet spice, musk sticks, pot-pourri, maraschino cherry and a brambly earthiness. Generously flavoured, mid-weighted and full of briary black fruits, creamy oak, spice and earth. Firm and structured tannins and punchy acidity deliver big time. A lovely wine that speaks of its place. Drink to 2035.

A brightly perfumed grenache, packed with high-toned red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry fruits, daubed with spice, citrus blossom, wildflowers, red licorice, dried meats and earth. Ditto on the palate, which is light and spacious, spice-packed and flighty; brisk of cadence with an endearing swell of red fruit as it fades off. Drink to 2034.

92 points Dave Brookes for Halliday Wine Companion, October 2024

The 2022 Fifth Wave Grenache leads with raspberry tart, licorice, pastry, sweet roasted beets and hung deli meat. The palate is both sweet and meaty, with exotic spices feathering the edges. The alcohol here is a feature of the wine and serves to slightly dry out the finish and create warmth through to the very end, enhancing the notes of goji berry that exist here. Black cherry and maraschino are the lasting impressions. Drink to 2032.

The Fifth Wave is Langmeil’s most treasured Old Vine Garden Grenache and is dedicated to the fifth generation of the Lindner family.

Planted in the middle of the last century, The Fifth Wave is ‘call to arms’ to protect, preserve and celebrate the best  of the Barossa. Once a neglected Old Vine Garden in Lyndoch, The Fifth Wave vineyard was rejuvenated by Langmeil and in 1999 winemaker Paul Lindner saw the potential of the Grenache from this unique vineyard and with tenacity convinced the owners to produce a straight varietal, in all likelihood the first time Grenache from this time honoured Old Vine Garden had been truly prized.

Light to medium crimson. Dark cherry,  raspberry  fruits  and a little  minty lift  mingles  with sweet spice and hints of vanilla add to the complexity.Juicy red berry and dark cherry flows onto the palate, melding into lovely sweet and briary spice.
