Packed with ripe cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and spice aromas and flavors, this red is complex and sophisticated. A mineral current also courses throughout, while the supple texture and refined tannins add to its overall balance and appeal. Best from 2029 through 2047.

Chambertin sits at the summit of Burgundy’s Pinot Noir hierarchy, a Grand Cru capable of producing wines with extraordinary depth, longevity and quiet authority. Louis Latour’s Cuvée Héritiers pays tribute to the generations of the Latour family who have shaped the house since 1797, combining traditional Burgundian craftsmanship with fruit sourced from one of the Côte de Nuits’ most revered terroirs. This is the kind of wine collectors cellar for decades and open only when the occasion truly calls for it.

The 2022 vintage is rich, layered and remarkably composed. Dark cherry, blackcurrant and ripe plum glide through the glass alongside violets, black tea, forest floor and exotic spice. Beneath the fruit lies that unmistakable Chambertin signature, powerful yet restrained, with an almost regal sense of structure. Careful oak ageing adds cedar, cocoa and smoky nuance without overwhelming the vineyard character. The tannins are dense but finely woven, carrying wave after wave of savoury complexity through an exceptionally long finish marked by crushed stone, truffle and dried rose petals.

This is Grand Cru Burgundy that deserves time, both in the decanter and in the cellar. Roast pigeon, venison with juniper or slow braised beef cheeks with wild mushrooms would all be magnificent beside it. There is also something magical about opening a bottle like this late in the evening with nothing more than good conversation and a wedge of aged Époisses nearby. Every hour in the glass reveals more detail and perfume. While already captivating, the structure and balance suggest this will evolve beautifully over the next two decades and beyond.
