Marion’s Vineyard, founded in 1979 by Marion Semichon and her family, is a pioneer of cool climate viticulture in northern Tasmania. Overlooking the Tamar River, the estate enjoys a unique maritime microclimate with abundant sunshine, cooling breezes, and north-facing slopes that provide long, even ripening. The soils are a mix of ancient volcanic loam and river sediments, giving the wines a distinctive mineral edge. Remaining family-run, Marion’s Vineyard is known for its minimal intervention approach, small-batch production, and a deep commitment to crafting wines that reflect both place and vintage.
The Marion’s Vineyard Chardonnay captures the elegance and precision of Tasmania’s cool climate style. Pale straw in the glass with green glints, it opens with aromas of white peach, lemon curd, and grapefruit zest, lifted by subtle notes of hazelnut, flint, and a whisper of vanilla from French oak. The palate is finely textured yet vibrant, with layers of citrus and stone fruit balanced by taut acidity and a mineral backbone that runs the length of the wine. Gentle lees stirring adds a creamy dimension without overshadowing the freshness, while the oak is seamlessly integrated for complexity and length.
Ideal with Tasmanian crayfish, pan-seared scallops, roast chicken with lemon and thyme, or a salad of grilled zucchini and pecorino, it is equally enjoyable on its own. While drinking beautifully now, it has the structure to develop gracefully over the next 6 to 8 years, gaining richer, nutty and honeyed complexity with age.
