Bright red fruits lift from the glass revealing elevated strawberry and plum with a light rustic dried herb character The palate is medium weight but crammed with powerfully presented fruit. The tannins are firm, showing a slightly chewy feel, contributing to the grainy palate texture. It’s as bright as a button with tremendous energy driving through to the finish. Drink to 2037.

A 68/22/10 blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mataro with fruit sourced from the certified organic Hazel’s vineyard in Witchcliffe. The parcels were harvested and vinified separately in vertical, open-top stone fermenters without temperature control. Grenache underwent fermentation with 50% whole clusters, while Syrah and Mataro were destemmed but left as whole berries. The fruit spent 8–14 days on skins before being pressed directly into large-format oak casks and small concrete vessels for malolactic fermentation. The wines were racked in early spring and blended in February 2023.

McHenry Hohnen was founded in 2004 by notable Perth wine retailer and hospitality name Murray McHenry and David Hohnen, winemaker and founder of Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay.

Murray planted his first vines in Margaret River in 1984 at what is now the Burnside Vineyard. The McHenry Hohnen wines are made from fruit grown in three estate vineyards in the southern part of the Margaret River: Hazel’s at Witchcliffe, Calgardup Brook in Karridale and Burnside enroute to Cowaramup. The vineyards are managed by a team led by Ben Sieber, while Soave-born Jacopo Dalli Cani is in charge back at the winery.
