From '98 plantings of MV6 at Gladysdale; 30% whole bunches. Matured in 300L and 500L casks (less than 10% new). Pretty and delicate with its aromas of alpine strawberries, rose petal and spice. More depth than the '21. Impeccably balanced and light on its feet, fine grained and ever so gently chewy tannins round out a wine that's approachable now but will keep.

Oakridge Hazeldene Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley is an elegant, perfumed and finely textured Pinot shaped by one of the Upper Yarra’s most expressive single vineyard sites. Hazeldene sits high in the cooler reaches of the region, where volcanic red soils and ancient mudstone help produce fruit loaded with fragrance, tension and beautifully fine tannins. Oakridge has built a reputation for capturing the quiet detail of each vineyard they work with, and Hazeldene is a prime example of how subtle shifts in altitude and soil can translate into remarkable nuance in the glass.

The wine begins with an aromatic profile that is bright and layered. Red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry weave together with rose petals, pomegranate, orange rind and a gentle herbal lift. Hints of forest floor, dried leaves, sandalwood and a touch of crushed stone sit beneath the fruit, echoing the cool, high country slopes the vines occupy. As the wine slowly breathes, cranberry, spice and a faint cocoa note deepen the bouquet.

On the palate, Hazeldene moves with quiet confidence. A burst of red berry fruit glides across silken tannins that feel both fine and delicately structured. Cherry, redcurrant, strawberry compote and subtle spice take centre stage, supported by a cool mineral line that keeps everything focused and energetic. The wine has a lovely openness through the mid palate, yet it finishes with poise, brightness and a gently savoury echo that lingers long after the final sip. With six to eight years in the cellar, it will gather more earthy, truffle like layers while retaining its elegant spine.

This refined style suits dishes that reward delicacy and perfume: duck breast with citrus glaze, roast chicken with herbs, mushroom gnocchi, grilled salmon, charcuterie, washed rind cheeses, beetroot and feta salad or simple pasta with sage butter. Served just slightly cool, it becomes even more aromatic and vibrant.
