Attractive aromas of red berry fruits and baking spices, plum, fallen leaves and tilled soil. A dry wine touches the palate with flavours of earth and mushroom then contrasting red berry fruits reflecting the bouquet. Warm with a decent line of acidity, fine through firmish tannins and plenty of mouthfeel. Well made, ready to drink from day of purchase through 2028.

Palliser Estate Pencarrow Pinot Noir from Martinborough is a vibrant and approachable expression of one of New Zealand’s most prized Pinot-producing regions. Sourced from Palliser’s sustainably farmed vineyards in the heart of the Wairarapa, this wine offers incredible value while still delivering the signature elegance, perfume, and structure that define Martinborough Pinot Noir.
The Pencarrow range is Palliser Estate’s second label—named after the nearby Pencarrow Lighthouse—but make no mistake, this is serious Pinot made with care. Grapes are harvested from younger vines and select blocks on the estate, with a focus on capturing freshness, fruit purity, and early drinkability. Fermentation is carried out in open-top tanks with wild and cultured yeasts, followed by maturation in seasoned French oak to round out the texture without overpowering the fruit.
In the glass, Pencarrow Pinot Noir is fragrant and lifted, with aromas of red cherry, plum, violets, and subtle baking spice. The palate is silky and medium-bodied, showing layers of juicy red berries, a touch of savoury earth, and finely integrated tannins. A bright line of acidity keeps it lively and food-friendly, with a soft, elegant finish.
It’s the kind of Pinot Noir that’s perfect for casual dinners or midweek indulgence—effortless, expressive, and distinctly Martinborough.
