A relatively low yielding Tasmanian 2023 vintage lends plenty of concentration to the wine with fruit tones of dark cherry and wild strawberry along with hints of pomegranate, dried citrus rind, blood orange, gentle herbs, spice, sous bois and light charcuterie hints. There's just a wisp of struck flint in there, too, right as the wine trails away, displaying impressive fruit purity, detail and flow across its length. Silky and smooth on the exit.

Penfolds Bin 23 Pinot Noir is a beautifully crafted cool-climate expression of Pinot Noir, highlighting the elegance and intensity of Tasmania’s premier vineyard sites. As part of Penfolds’ highly regarded Bin Series, Bin 23 represents a more modern and site-specific approach to Pinot Noir, showcasing the purity of fruit and the influence of cool-climate viticulture. Sourced primarily from Tasmania, a region renowned for its long growing season, maritime breezes, and well-drained soils, this wine delivers vibrancy, depth, and finely tuned structure.

On the palate, Penfolds Bin 23 Pinot Noir offers a bright and layered profile, featuring ripe red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry, interwoven with hints of rhubarb, dried herbs, and subtle spice. A delicate touch of oak aging introduces notes of vanilla, cedar, and a whisper of smoky complexity, enhancing the wine’s silky texture without overpowering its natural freshness. Fine-grained tannins and lively acidity provide structure and balance, leading to a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of cranberry and crushed violets.

This Pinot Noir is a versatile food wine, pairing beautifully with roasted duck, seared salmon, and mushroom risotto. Its vibrant acidity and supple tannins also make it a great match for charcuterie, grilled quail, and mild cheeses such as Taleggio or aged cheddar. While it is approachable in its youth, Bin 23 has the potential to develop further complexity over 5–7 years, revealing even greater depth and nuance with age.
