A rich dark purple. Already the colour, but even more the nose, this could not be more different from Charmes. Certainly, there is a voluptuous intensity to this wine, but it is much more cerebral than the Charmes. There is a mineral note beneath the exceptional intensity of dark berry fruit, with some ripe dark red cherries as well. Marvellous at the finish. Length and precision. Drink from 2032-2045.

The Perrot-Minot Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes is a prestigious wine from the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, renowned for its exceptional complexity, elegance, and expression of terroir. Crafted by the esteemed Domaine Perrot-Minot, this wine exemplifies the meticulous care and dedication of a domaine celebrated for its focus on old vines and biodynamic principles.
Mazoyères-Chambertin is part of the famed Chambertin Grand Cru appellation, located near Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines used for this wine are classified as Vieilles Vignes (old vines), with many exceeding 50 years of age. These deeply rooted vines produce low yields of highly concentrated and expressive Pinot Noir grapes, capturing the essence of the vineyard's unique limestone and marl soils.
Christophe Perrot-Minot, the driving force behind the domaine, is known for his commitment to minimal intervention winemaking. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested, with fermentation occurring naturally using indigenous yeasts. A portion of whole clusters may be included during vinification to enhance aromatic complexity. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, with a judicious use of new oak to ensure the purity of the fruit and terroir remains the focal point.
This Grand Cru Pinot Noir is a masterpiece of balance and nuance. On the nose, it reveals an intricate bouquet of black cherry, raspberry, and plum, layered with earthy notes of forest floor, truffle, and hints of exotic spices. The palate is rich yet refined, offering a silky texture and a seamless integration of fruit, acidity, and fine-grained tannins. Subtle touches of cedar and dark chocolate from the oak aging add depth without overpowering the wine’s innate elegance. The finish is remarkably long and complex, leaving a lingering impression of minerality and finesse.
The Perrot-Minot Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru VV is a wine of extraordinary aging potential, rewarding those who have the patience to cellar it for 10-20 years or more. It pairs beautifully with dishes such as duck confit, venison, mushroom risotto, or a classic Boeuf Bourguignon.
