Pale, almost water-white colour; intense and fresh aromas of kaffir lime leaf, lemon juice and pith, the flavour concentrated and driving on a very long, focused and penetrating palate. Riesling sourced from the Cooinda Vale vineyard in the Coal River Valley that sees five months on lees in old French oak puncheons. Pale in the glass with the merest flash of green. Concentrated and wonderfully delineated aromas of fresh lime and crunchy green apple with notes of lemongrass, lemon curd, makrut lime, orange blossom, dried honey, crushed stone and citrus rind. The focus and minerally clarity are something else as are the penetrating citrus flavours and vivid, stony cadence as it sets off across the palate. It's all about tension, resolution and grace. A good cellaring prospect if you have the patience.

Three generations of the Pooley family have been involved in the development of Pooley Wines, although the winery was previously known as Cooinda Vale. Plantings have now reached over 12ha in a region that is warmer and drier than most people realise. In 2003 the family planted pinot noir and pinot grigio (with more recent plantings of pinot noir and chardonnay) at Belmont Vineyard, a heritage property with an 1830s Georgian home and a (second) cellar door in the old sandstone barn and stables.
Named after Pooleys Wines co-founder Margaret Pooley, this elegant Riesling is a great testament to the wine variety Margaret loved most. Aromas of apple blossom, jasmine and delicate citrus. A richer mouth texture with green apple acidity and a saline finish. Great balance and length of flavour. Will cellar for 15 years plus or just enjoy its freshness now.
