A single-vineyard wine from Moorabool; 90% whole berries with a small portion of whole bunches, matured in barriques (25% new). A deep-ish bright crimson. Brooding with aromas of red cherries, ripe strawberries, black tea and a gentle meatiness. This is the richer and more structured than Provenance's Ballarat and Henty pinots. While not quite as approachable now, my gut feeling is this will become the most complex in time. They are all worth seeking out!

Provenance Regional Selection Pinot Noir from Geelong is a vibrant, cool climate red that captures the earthy charm and lifted aromatics of one of Victoria’s most characterful wine regions. Crafted with precision and sensitivity by winemaker Scott Ireland, this wine offers serious regional expression at a highly approachable price point, making it a standout in the Provenance portfolio.

The fruit is sourced from multiple sites across the Geelong region, including cooler coastal vineyards near the Bellarine Peninsula and more inland parcels with volcanic soils. This diversity gives the wine both aromatic lift and savoury structure—hallmarks of Geelong Pinot Noir. The vineyards are managed with a strong focus on sustainability, vine health, and low yields, ensuring fruit purity and site expression.

Winemaking is minimalist to let the regional voice speak clearly. Fermentation takes place with a mix of whole berries and whole bunches to build complexity, while ageing in older French oak adds gentle spice without overtaking the fruit. The result is a Pinot Noir that is juicy, textured, and layered with bright red fruit and fine tannins.

In the glass, Provenance Regional Selection Pinot Noir shows aromas of cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and subtle forest floor. The palate is light to medium bodied with vibrant red fruits, spice, and earthy undertones supported by a fine acid line and silky structure. It’s incredibly food friendly and versatile, ideal for everything from roast duck to mushroom risotto or charcuterie.

This is a wine that punches well above its weight, offering a clear window into what makes Geelong such an exciting region for Pinot Noir.
