Salomon Undhof Kogl Riesling from Kremstal is a precise, mineral-driven white that beautifully reflects the elegance of Austria’s Danube Valley. Crafted by eighth-generation winemaker Bertold Salomon, this single vineyard Riesling comes from the famed Kogl site—perched on steep terraces above the town of Stein, where the soils are rich in weathered primary rock and loess.
Bertold and his family have been working these vineyards for centuries, and their focus has always been on producing wines of clarity, structure and longevity. The Kogl vineyard faces south, soaking up the warmth of the day while cool nights help the grapes retain acidity and aromatic lift. Fermentation is with native yeasts in stainless steel, and the wine is aged on lees to build complexity and texture without sacrificing its vibrant freshness.
The nose opens with citrus blossom, green apple, lime zest and crushed slate. On the palate, it’s linear and dry, with racy acidity driving flavours of lemon, white peach and flinty minerality. There's a tension and purity here that speaks to both place and winemaking restraint. The finish is long, focused and just slightly saline.
Pair it with fresh oysters, grilled prawns, Thai salads or soft goat cheese. This is serious Riesling for lovers of detail and elegance, made by one of Austria’s most respected winemaking families.
