2022 Saumaize-Michelin Vers Cras Pouilly-Fuisse 1er Cru, Maconnais

Vers Cras is the secret star of the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards. It was also classified as a 1er Cru. Located in the middle of the two towns of Pouilly and Fuissé, it consists largely of weathered limestone. The Chardonnay vines here are 80 - 90 years old and produce only the smallest yields. After a long struggle by the local winegrowers, some sites will finally be awarded 1er Cru status from the 2019/2020 vintages and "Vers Cras" is one of the first! The wine smells delicately of tangerines, grapefruit and some pineapple, in the background there are also roasted walnuts and acacia blossoms. Very mineral and dense on the palate - power meets finesse. Great wine!
