This wine displays its seriousness from the start with fragrant cherry fruit and a whisper of anise. It bursts with ripe, opulent red and dark fruit framed by bold, robust tannin, and an enchanting thread of black pepper weaves through the palate. If drinking young, decanting is paramount; otherwise, tuck it away to mature and harmonise.

The Taltarni Estate Shiraz from the Pyrenees is a bold yet refined expression of cool-climate Shiraz from one of Victoria’s most historic producers. Founded in 1969, Taltarni was among the first to recognise the potential of the Pyrenees region, with its elevated vineyards, ancient red soils and a climate that combines warm days with crisp nights. These conditions give Shiraz intensity of fruit while preserving freshness and elegance, a hallmark of the estate’s style.
In the glass, the wine is deep crimson with purple hues. The nose is vibrant and layered, with blackberry, plum and dark cherry interwoven with black pepper, spice, violets and a subtle hint of cedar from careful oak maturation. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with juicy dark fruit flavours supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. Notes of cocoa, liquorice and savoury earth add depth, while the finish is long and balanced, showing both power and finesse.
Food pairings suit its structure and spice: chargrilled lamb chops with rosemary, beef short ribs, venison pie, or a mushroom and lentil stew. Aged cheeses like cheddar or manchego also make excellent companions. With 10 to 12 years of cellaring potential, the wine will evolve into a more savoury, complex style with truffle, leather and dried spice notes.
