Plush and generous Ebenezer Shiraz with spicy and ferrous dark fruit
Loads of satsuma plum, blackberry and dark cherry leap from the glass, backed by hints of spice and that subtle ferrous, ironstone character that seems to come naturally from these old Ebenezer soils.
This is quintessential northern Barossa, plush, generous, and unpretentious, perfect for hearty family meals or casual barbecue dinners with close friends. It offers serious, multi-generational old-vine credentials at an accessible price point, delivering charm without a decade in the cellar.
Try with seared, smoked kransky over a creamy mash and sauerkraut or a spice-rubbed roast shoulder of lamb with a charred eggplant purée.
More about this wine
The Riebke family have some of the best kept vineyards in the Ebenezer subregion of the Barossa, with old, low yielding vines grown for six successive generations. The vineyards are predominantly on ancient, weathered material, typically rich in clay, loam and ironstone and are located at 280 metres above sea level.
The moderate temperatures of the 2022 season allowed for good retention of natural acids, and the prolonged season ripened all varieties evenly. This is an excellent Barossa vintage, with wines showing good colours, bright aromatics and finely textured tannins.
This wine was fermented cool across arrange of fermenters wild frequent pumping over by hand. It was matured for 12 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads.
About Teusner Wines
Kym Teusner was raised on a sheep and cereal farm on the banks of the Murray River. While studying business in Adelaide, he was fascinated by a Barossa Valley Cabernet that led to all-consuming obsession with wine and travels to wine regions around the globe. Coming home, his studies shifted formally to oenology and landed him roles at Torbreck and Rolf Binder, with a dedicated small cellar at the latter becoming the home for his first wines. 2008 saw the first full-time vintage for his label, culminating in the construction of a bespoke winery in Nuriootpa.
Teusner Wines is a negociant producer working with grape growing families across the Barossa. Many of these families have lived in the Barossa since the early days of settlement and possess in-depth, multi-generational knowledge about growing conditions, unique terroir variations and the distinct intricacies of local sites. Kym’s mutually respectful relationship with growers and his gentle winemaking approach are at the core of all Teusner wines.
