High in the foothills of the Dolomites, Pinot Blanc has found one of its happiest homes in Alto Adige. Few producers know these mountain vineyards better than Tiefenbrunner, a family estate whose history stretches back to 1848. Generations of the family have worked the steep slopes surrounding the village of Kurtatsch, building a reputation for wines that combine Alpine freshness with remarkable precision and character.
The Merus range celebrates varietal purity and drinkability, drawing fruit from elevated vineyards where warm sunny days are balanced by cool mountain nights. This dramatic temperature shift preserves freshness and aromatic detail while allowing the grapes to develop flavour intensity and texture. The excellent 2022 vintage delivered beautifully balanced fruit with superb clarity and energy.
Pale straw in colour with bright green highlights, the bouquet opens with aromas of pear, green apple and white peach layered with notes of white flowers, citrus blossom and crushed stone. The palate is vibrant and finely textured, delivering flavours of orchard fruits and lemon zest supported by crisp acidity and a delicate mineral thread. There is a lovely sense of purity and poise throughout, while the finish is long, refreshing and gently saline.
This is a wonderfully versatile food wine, pairing beautifully with grilled trout, fresh crab, zucchini and ricotta ravioli, asparagus risotto or crispy schnitzel with lemon. Equally enjoyable as an aperitif on a warm afternoon, it captures the elegance and effortless drinkability that make Alto Adige whites such a delight.
