An unexpected but welcome warmth and spiciness come off the nose of this pale-pink rosato opening onto a palate that's absolutely alive with acidic citrus, the metallic tang of coins and the saline notes of crushed rocks and seabreezes.

High on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna, Torre Mora crafts wines that capture the wild energy and mineral intensity of one of Italy’s most dramatic wine regions. The vineyards for Scalunera Etna Bianco sit at altitude on lava rich soils, where warm Sicilian sunshine is tempered by cool mountain air sweeping down from the volcano. It is a landscape that gives white wines remarkable freshness and tension, worlds away from the heavier styles many people still expect from Sicily.
The 2022 vintage is bright, saline and beautifully expressive. Carricante takes centre stage, bringing notes of lemon zest, green apple and white peach alongside delicate white flowers, fennel and crushed volcanic stone. There is a smoky mineral edge running through the wine that feels unmistakably Etna, adding both complexity and energy. Crisp acidity drives the palate forward while the texture remains quietly generous, finishing long with lingering citrus, sea spray and subtle herbal notes.
Seafood is almost compulsory here. Fresh oysters, grilled calamari or spaghetti with clams and chilli would all be sensational matches. It would also shine beside sardines straight from the barbecue, creamy burrata with lemon and herbs or simple grilled vegetables drizzled with good olive oil. There is a freshness and drinkability to this wine that makes it dangerously easy to finish the bottle, especially on a warm afternoon with salty food and good company nearby.
