2022 Tyrrell's Semillon, Hunter Valley

Hard to believe that a wine with so much bright crisp pear, star fruit and fresh herbs character has less than 11% alcohol. Very sleek body with quite a steely finish, but the fruit is the winner! Drink or hold.

Picked early morning, pressed then fermented in stainless steel. Creeps up on you, the bouquet pleasingly varietal and fresh, but without any high points, perhaps reflecting the high-yielding year with water, water everywhere. But there is a change for the better on the palate, maturation on lees adding flavour and texture. Drink now.

The Tyrrell's Hunter Valley Semillon offers a modern, fruit driven expression with clear regional characters. The grapes are sourced from several of their vineyards, most of them dry grown and with an average wine age of 40 years. The fruit is machine harvested at night and pressed straight into stainless steel for fermentation and bottled early after a short time on lees for a classic, fresh Hunter expression of Semillon that drinks best in its youth.
