From the limestone rich hills of the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, Bourgogne Terres de Pierres reflects the expressive and precise style of Verget, the négociant project created by acclaimed Burgundian winemaker Jean Marie Guffens. Guffens, originally from Belgium, built his reputation through Domaine Guffens Heynen before establishing Verget to work with carefully selected vineyards across Burgundy. His philosophy focuses on sourcing exceptional fruit and applying meticulous cellar work to produce wines that show both richness and mineral precision. Terres de Pierres, meaning soils of stone, highlights the stony limestone terroirs that define many of the best sites in the Mâconnais.
The wine shows a pale gold colour with bright reflections. Aromas lift with lemon zest, green apple and white peach layered with hints of citrus blossom and crushed stone. As the wine evolves in the glass gentle notes of almond and toasted hazelnut appear, adding subtle complexity. The palate is vibrant and finely balanced with flavours of citrus, ripe orchard fruit and a chalky mineral edge supported by lively acidity.
There is a pleasing texture and depth that carries through to a long clean finish. It will drink beautifully over the next five to seven years and works wonderfully with grilled fish, roast chicken, shellfish or light pasta dishes.
