The 2022 Trott Vineyard Grenache Blewitt Springs is excellent. It is both sweet and mineral, spicy and fine, with fleshy fruit and intense flavor, and all-round, it's relatively thrilling. It combines eminent drinkability and deliciousness with serious complexity, all the while framed by very fine, savory, silty tannins. There's dried rose petals, tobacco, ozone, sea spray, black cherry, raspberry pip, white pepper (not making any allusions to cool climate, just stating what I see), graphite, black tea and something really juicy and fine right at the tip of my tongue. This is a truly exciting wine here. The Trott Vineyard was planted in 1952 and is an east-facing vineyard with dry-grown bush vines. Being in Blewitt Springs, it is all about the ancient, sandy soils over clay and ironstone. What a wine! The tannins! 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Deep-ish purple red colour with a slightly reserved but attractive aroma of discreet spice and dark berry fruits. Intense, focused palate with tight, firm tannins on an elegant framework. Stylish and promising grenache with impressive structure. (About 10% whole-bunch fermentation, only a small proportion went into oak) 25 Jul 2023 Drink 2023–2036

In the glass, Willunga 100 Trott Vineyard Grenache displays a vibrant ruby-red color, with hints of purple that reflect its youthful character. The nose is an aromatic mix of ripe red berries, including raspberry, strawberry, and cherry, along with a subtle spiciness and a touch of herbs. There are also hints of earthy undertones, typical of the McLaren Vale terroir, adding depth and complexity to the bouquet.
On the palate, this Grenache is medium to full-bodied, with smooth tannins and a rich, round mouthfeel. The fruit flavors are ripe and vibrant, with juicy red berries and a touch of black fruit, complemented by a subtle spiciness and hints of dried herbs. The oak aging adds a touch of vanilla and a soft, creamy texture, without overwhelming the fruit. The wine’s bright acidity gives it balance and structure, leading to a long, satisfying finish with lingering flavors of fruit and spice.
Willunga 100 Trott Vineyard Grenache is a versatile wine that pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. Its vibrant fruit and soft tannins make it an excellent match for grilled meats, such as lamb, beef, or sausages.
