From the sun soaked vineyards of southern Italy comes a Primitivo that captures the warmth and generosity of Puglia. A Mano was founded by American born winemaker Mark Shannon and Italian partner Elvezia Sbalchiero, who moved to the region in the late 1990s with a mission to craft honest, expressive wines from local varieties. Working closely with small growers across Puglia, they source fruit from old bush vines planted in the region’s red iron rich soils. The Mediterranean climate, with hot days and cooling sea breezes from the Adriatic and Ionian seas, produces Primitivo with rich fruit and soft tannins.
Deep ruby with purple highlights, the aromatics are bold and inviting. Ripe black cherry, plum and blackberry leap from the glass, followed by hints of sweet spice, cocoa and dried herbs. There is a warm, sun ripened character balanced by freshness.
On the palate it is medium to full bodied and generous, delivering layers of dark berry fruit supported by soft, rounded tannins. Notes of chocolate, spice and a gentle savoury edge add complexity, while balanced acidity keeps the wine lively. The finish is smooth and lingering, marked by ripe plum and subtle spice.
Pair with wood fired pizza, slow cooked lamb, grilled sausages, pasta with rich tomato ragù or aged pecorino. Enjoy now for its vibrant fruit and approachable style, though it will cellar comfortably for five to eight years.
