2022 Albert Bichot Meursault AOC, Burgundy

Aromas of white flowers, pear, green apple and almond paste introduce the 2022 Meursault Village, a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny palate that's seamless, giving and charming.

It had been some years since my last visit to this historic producer, and my tasting with Alberic Bichot and technical director Matthieu Mangenot focused on their domaine cuvées, all farmed organically and certified as such, complemented by some of the highlights of their négociant portfolio. The various domaine holdings are managed separately by independent teams in the Côte d'Or, divided between Domaine de Clos Frantin and the Château Gris, both in Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the Domaine de Pavillon in Pommard, reinforcing the link between the vines and the winery. The style here is elegant and understated, privileging purity of fruit and gentle extraction, a formula that worked well in 2022. Whites are bottled under Diam technical closures to ensure consistency in aging from bottle to bottle. All in all, as the notes attest, this is a very solid portfolio that reflects the house's progress over the last decade.

Though they are always magnificently opulent, some may feature varying expressions of minerality.
