A pan-estate blend, from a long-certified-organic vineyard, with an average vine age of 45 years; 12 months in French oak, 15% new. I always scratch my head at the Battle of Bosworth pricing. In a good way. Such integrity from the ground up, and such engaging, authentic wines at honest pricing. This is beautifully fragrant and open, with blackberry, tapenade, saltbush, iron and anise, dried hardy herbs. Balance, import and general drinkability all rate highly, the value equation outstanding. Drink to 2030.

93 points (Special Value) Marcus Ellis for Halliday Wine Companion, April 2026

A very youthful and bright red in the glass. Lifted aromas of mulberry, cranberry, briar, dried herbs and spice. Bright, dark fruited and lively in flavour, with a smart drive of pure dark fruits, firm tannin and perky acidity. Purity and vitality here. Drink to 2036.

91 points Aaron Brasher for The Real Review, January 2026

More about this wine

Shiraz is the cornerstone of Bosworth Wines, and this particular wine is the most important one for the family.

Grapes are picked on both flavour and sugar ripeness, destemmed, crushed and fermented in small open fermenters with twice daily pump overs. The dry wine matures for just under 12 months in French oak, of which roughly 30% (vintage pending) are new for each vintage.

The wine is vegan friendly.

About Battle of Bosworth

The Bosworth family have farmed in McLaren Vale’s Willunga district since 1850s. Peter and Anthea Bosworth settled down at Grange Farm, a stone fruit and almond orchard, in the 1970s, renovating the old homestead on the property, and converting the orchards to a vineyard.

Their son Joch Bosworth and partner Louise Hemsley-Smith are the current custodians of Bosworth Wines, farming the now numerous family vineyards organically since 1995. Their vines stand at an average elevation of 130 meters in rolling hills of Kurrajong soils, a mix of red-brown loam over clay and limestone and enjoy both cooling breezes from the Saint Vincent Gulf and the protection offered by Mt Lofty Ranges.

The family’s McLaren Vale produce is sold under the labels Battle of Bosworth and Spring Seed Wine Co., while Springs Road wines are made from fruit grown in the family’s Kangaroo Island vineyard.
