Bloody Hill Chardonnay offers citrus, white peach and fine minerality with vibrant Yarra Valley freshness, texture and depth.
Whole-bunch pressed into neutral oak. No mlf. A very bright green gold. Finer than the previous year's chardonnay, which was from Panton Hill. Aromas of stone fruits, ruby grapefruit and just a hint of flint. There's good intensity on the flavourful yet taut and well-structured palate. A satisfying wine to drink over the next two to three years.

Perched on the steep slopes above Coldstream, Bloody Hill is the second label of Timo Mayer, one of the Yarra Valley's most admired and unconventional winemakers. Named after the demanding hillside vineyards where much of the fruit is grown, Bloody Hill captures the energy, character and drinkability that have made Mayer's wines so sought after. The range offers a more approachable expression of the estate's philosophy while retaining a strong sense of site and personality.
The cool climate of Coldstream provides ideal conditions for Chardonnay, with warm days encouraging flavour development and cool nights preserving freshness and natural acidity. The 2023 vintage delivered fruit of excellent quality, allowing the variety's vibrant citrus and stone fruit characters to shine. Sensitive winemaking and restrained oak influence ensure the focus remains on purity, texture and vineyard expression.
Pale straw gold in colour, the bouquet reveals aromas of white peach, nectarine and grapefruit layered with notes of lemon blossom, struck flint and subtle spice. The palate is bright and energetic, offering flavours of citrus, stone fruit and green apple supported by a fine mineral thread. A gentle creaminess adds texture without sacrificing freshness, while lively acidity carries the wine through a long, refreshing finish marked by citrus and savoury complexity.
This is a wonderful match for grilled prawns, roast chicken, seafood pasta, zucchini fritters or a fresh crab salad. Equally enjoyable as an aperitif, it captures the vibrancy and charm that have made Yarra Valley Chardonnay one of Australia's most exciting white wine styles.
