Bortoluzzi Pinot Grigio from Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a crisp, aromatic white that captures the elegance and mineral freshness of Italy’s northeast. Grown in the Grave del Friuli DOC, an area known for its gravelly soils and Alpine influences, this Pinot Grigio offers far more texture and depth than the average example. It’s a wine that balances purity of fruit with savoury complexity and is a standout expression of the region’s ability to craft precise, food-friendly whites.
The fruit is harvested early in the morning to preserve acidity and aromatic lift. After gentle pressing and cold fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is left on lees for a short period to add roundness and mouthfeel, while maintaining its characteristic clarity.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of white peach, lemon peel, green pear, acacia blossom and a faint herbal note. The palate is dry and vibrant, with flavours of crisp orchard fruit, citrus, almond and crushed stone. There’s a clean, mineral backbone running through the wine, leading to a fresh, slightly savoury finish.
Food pairing: excellent with grilled prawns, seafood risotto, asparagus and burrata salad, or lemon-roasted chicken. Also pairs well with mild cheeses or sushi.
Cellar potential: best enjoyed young and fresh, but can hold for 2 to 3 years for a softer, more rounded texture.
