2023 Cooter & Cooter Shiraz, McLaren Vale

Sourced from low-yielding vineyards in McLaren Vale, the Shiraz benefits from ancient soils and the region’s Mediterranean climate, producing fruit of concentration and depth. Damien and Anna focus on minimal intervention and careful oak use, ensuring the wine retains vibrancy and purity while showing the classic power of McLaren Vale Shiraz.

In the glass it is deep crimson with purple hues. The nose is generous and complex, with blackberry, plum and mulberry layered with hints of violet, liquorice, pepper and cocoa. The palate is full-bodied and plush, with dark fruit flavours supported by velvety tannins and balanced acidity. Notes of spice, mocha and savoury earth add complexity, while the finish is long, smooth and refined.

Food pairings suit its richness and structure: slow-braised beef cheeks, roast lamb with garlic and rosemary, venison with juniper, or mushroom and truffle pie for a vegetarian option.
