From the northern gateway of the Côte de Nuits comes a beautifully poised Chardonnay that highlights the quiet confidence of Marsannay. Crafted by Philippe Collotte, whose family estate dates back to the late nineteenth century, this white Burgundy reflects meticulous vineyard care and a restrained, terroir focused philosophy. Marsannay may be better known for Pinot Noir, yet its limestone and marl soils are equally capable of producing Chardonnay with freshness, mineral tension and subtle power. Collotte’s approach favours balance and site expression, allowing the character of this northern Côte de Nuits village to shine through.
Pale gold with brilliant clarity, the aromatics are refined and layered. White peach, pear and lemon zest unfold alongside citrus blossom, crushed stone and a gentle almond nuance. A faint flinty note adds intrigue without dominating the fruit.
The palate is medium bodied and beautifully composed, combining stone fruit generosity with vibrant natural acidity. Nectarine, apple and citrus glide across a lightly textured frame shaped by discreet oak maturation. A fine chalky mineral line carries through to a long, clean finish, lingering with lemon curd and toasted hazelnut. It is elegant and quietly complex, offering both early appeal and structure for ageing.
Pair with roast chicken and tarragon, grilled scallops, lobster with herb butter or a simple mushroom tart. Enjoy now for its freshness and precision, or cellar for six to ten years to allow further development of honeyed and nutty tertiary complexity.
