A cracking match for roast chicken, grilled prawns, creamy mushroom pasta, scallops or a warm goat’s cheese tart. It also has exactly the right combination of freshness and texture for fish and chips — preferably with a rather indecent amount of tartare sauce.
Domaine Desvignes is one of Givry’s historic family estates, with generations of experience among the limestone slopes of the Côte Chalonnaise. Today siblings Gautier and Aurélie Desvignes are bringing renewed attention to the domaine through meticulous vineyard work and sensitive winemaking. While Givry is best known for its reds, the domaine’s Blanc is a delicious reminder that this corner of Burgundy can also produce Chardonnay with freshness, texture and terrific personality.
The 2023 vintage brought generous ripeness while retaining the natural acidity needed to keep the wine bright and energetic. Limestone-rich soils contribute a cool mineral edge, while thoughtful élevage builds texture without smothering the fruit. The result is generous enough to be immediately appealing, yet fresh enough to keep you reaching for another glass.
Pale gold with bright straw highlights, the bouquet opens with lemon, white peach and ripe pear, followed by citrus blossom, fresh almond and a gentle stony note. The palate is supple and beautifully textured, with orchard and citrus fruit balanced by lively acidity and a chalky mineral thread. Hints of hazelnut and subtle spice add complexity before a fresh, lightly saline finish.
