30% whole bunch vinification and a third in foudre. A bright mid purple. As with the white, the fruit is a little sterner, concentrated without the soft edge, and the stems are less apparent. Not so much bouquet though. Stems come out at the back, otherwise dark raspberry with a firmer finish. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Oct 2024.

88-91 points Jasper Morris MW for Inside Burgundy

Domaine Lucien Muzard is one of Santenay's most respected family estates, with brothers Claude and Hervé Muzard continuing a tradition of meticulous vineyard work and classical Burgundian winemaking. Clos Faubard is one of the domaine's standout vineyard sites, producing wines of elegance, purity and structure that beautifully reflect the character of the Côte de Beaune.

The 2023 vintage delivered beautifully balanced fruit, with warm days and cool nights encouraging exceptional flavour development while preserving freshness and aromatic lift. Gentle extraction and restrained oak maturation allow the vineyard's vibrant fruit and mineral character to shine, resulting in a wine of finesse, harmony and regional expression.

Bright ruby with crimson highlights, the bouquet reveals aromas of wild cherry, raspberry and redcurrant layered with rose petals, subtle spice and delicate forest floor notes. As the wine evolves, hints of crushed stone, fine cedar and earthy complexity emerge, adding depth and refinement. The palate is silky and beautifully composed, combining vibrant red berry fruit with fine tannins, lively acidity and a graceful mineral thread. Elegant and persistent, the finish lingers with savoury spice and refined balance.

A wonderful partner for roast duck, grilled quail, mushroom risotto, herb roasted chicken or mature washed rind cheeses. Delicious in its youth, this beautifully crafted Santenay will continue to reward careful cellaring over the coming decade.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2035.
