Approchable regional style, harmonious and elegant with fine, dusty tannins
This wine greets you with lifted aromas of blackcurrant fruit and leaves with earthy dark chocolate and light toasted notes. The harmonious and elegant palate is juicy and flanked by dusty ripe tannins.
Approachable now, this should keep well for many years. Would sit nicely with pork carnitas tacos or master stock braised duck legs with shiitake and fermented black beans.
More about this wine
The Matilda wines pay tribute to their 1943 Tiger Moth namesake that took the late vineyard founder Brian Edwards on a solo flight from England to Australia in 1990 and holds pride of place at Edwards’ cellar door.
This wine comes from the excellent 2023 vintage. The estate grown fruit was crushed and inoculated with a select yeast strain, the ferment pumped over for a period of ten days. Post-malolactic, the wine matured for 14 months in French oak barrels of which a quarter were new.
About Edwards
Brian and Jenny Edwards planted the first vines on their Cowaramup property in 1993. The soils are well-draining gravelly loams and the vineyards managed to organic principles.
Second-generation brothers Mike and Christo are today continuing their parents’ work, with vineyards planted to Margaret River’s signature varieties now covering 22 hectares.
